Sprinter

Date

July 2024

Maggie Barrie, a prominent figure in Sierra Leone's sports scene, is the daughter of a former national sprint star, Andrew Barrie of FBC. Following her father's footsteps, Maggie discovered her passion for running at a young age, excelling in the 400 meters Dash event. After a brief period at Xavier University, she moved to The Ohio State University where she not only made a significant impact on the university's team but also broke the women's 400 meters record.

Competing for Sierra Leone at various championships, including the African Athletics Championships in Nigeria and the World Athletics Championships in Qatar, Maggie paved her way to the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Despite the postponement of the Games to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maggie remained determined to represent Sierra Leone at the Olympics, marking her final appearance at the Games before retiring from professional running.

Maggie holds all three Women's Sprint records in Sierra Leone and actively supported less fortunate athletes in her homeland through philanthropic endeavors during her competitive years. Now retired, married, and pursuing a career in the tech industry, Maggie continues to advocate for athletes in Sierra Leone.
