Integrating Education With Athletic Development

Athletes for Better Nations – Sierra Leone (AFBN-SLE) integrates academic accountability into every aspect of youth athlete development.

 

Participation in AFBN-SLE programs requires active engagement in education. Athletic opportunity is designed to strengthen — not replace — academic success.

AFTER-SCHOOL STUDY HALL

AFBN-SLE provides structured After-School Study Hall for identified student-athletes across participating schools.

 

Study Hall offers dedicated time for:

 

  • Homework completion

  • Tutoring support

  • Study skills development

  • Preparation for the next school day

 

Academic sessions are supported by qualified teachers and advanced students, ensuring participants receive consistent guidance in core learning areas.

TUTORING & ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Student-athletes receive after-school assistance in:

 

  • Homework review

  • Reading and comprehension

  • Study habits and organization

  • Examination preparation

 

Tutors are selected based on academic performance and commitment to service. Opportunities for tutor development and scholarship guidance may be incorporated as programs expand.

EDUCATION-FIRST MODEL

AFBN-SLE operates on the principle that education is foundational to long-term success.

 

Programs emphasize:

 

  • Classroom engagement

  • Academic responsibility

  • Personal discipline

  • Life skills development

 

Athletic participation is structured to reinforce these outcomes.

SERVICE & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

AFBN-SLE encourages service and mentorship as part of its development model. Older students and academic leaders support younger participants, fostering responsibility, leadership, and community engagement.

SCHOOL-BASED PARTNERSHIPS

AFBN-SLE works with schools to strengthen Physical Education programs and promote organized sport from:

 

  • Infant level

  • Primary school

  • Inter-secondary competition

 

These partnerships support student wellness, discipline, and national pride.

LOOKING AHEAD

AFBN-SLE is building toward expanded academic programming, scholarship pathways, and integrated school-based development hubs.
