Date
April 2023
Known as one of Sierra Leone’s esteemed football stars, Mohamed Kallon hails from Kenema, Sierra Leone, just like the renowned Ishmael Dyfan. His early years were spent in Kenema before he relocated to Freetown, where he attended the prestigious St. Edwards Secondary School. It was here that his exceptional talent in the sport emerged. At the young age of 15, the professional Premier League football club, the ‘Old Edwardians’, signed him, recognizing his potential from a very young age.
His career flourished when a Lebanese Premier League Club, Tandamor Sour from Tyre, signed him, kickstarting his successful international football journey. This led him to play for various clubs such as Spanga in Sweden and the renowned Italian club Inter Milan. During the 2001-02 season, Kallon returned to Inter Milan for an impressive 4.3 Million Euros Transfer fee, becoming one of the first Sierra Leonean footballers to play in the prestigious ‘Serie A’.
Following his time in Italy, he joined Monaco in the French Football Federation, later moving to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Ittihad. Throughout his career, Kallon showcased his skills across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East before retiring in 2016. Coming from a family deeply rooted in football, with elder brothers Kemokai and Musa Kallon preceding him in the national football scene, Kallon left a lasting impact. He represented the national team, Leone Stars, earning over 30 caps from 1995 to 2012 and scoring more than 120 goals for both clubs and country.
Currently, Kallon owns and manages his football club, FC Kallon, established in 2002. He is actively involved in various sports-related ventures in Sierra Leone, providing mentorship and support while being recognized as the most prominent footballer from Sierra Leone on the global stage.
