April 2023

The Gridiron Warrior from Freetown! Gibril Wilson was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and spent his early years there before moving to the US at the age of five. Despite soccer being the most popular sport in Sierra Leone, he gravitated towards American Football while growing up in the US. Known for his impressive speed and agility, he excelled as a Safety in the defensive backfield.

Starting his journey at the City College of San Francisco, Gibril navigated through the Junior College system before receiving offers from prestigious Division 1 Universities. Opting for the University of Tennessee over other notable universities like Florida, Oregon, and USC, he continued to shine. With impressive stats like a blazing 4.47-seconds 40-yard dash time he was drafted by the New York Giants in the 5th round as the 136th overall pick in 2004, he showcased his skills and earned a Super Bowl Ring by defeating the favored Tom Brady led New England Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl.

Throughout his career, Gibril played for four significant NFL franchises, including the Oakland Raiders, the Miami Dolphins, and the Cincinnati Bengals. Signing his most substantial contract with the Raiders worth $39 million. He faced a setback due to a major ACL injury, ultimately concluding his remarkable football journey as a Bengal in 2011.
