June 2024

Known affectionately as San T, he proudly represented Sierra Leone in two Olympic Games and numerous World Athletics Championships (Indoor & Outdoor). Rising from humble beginnings, he trained alongside renowned athletes like Britain's Linford Christie, showcasing his unwavering commitment to hard work and dedication to his craft.

Sanusi emerged as a prominent sprinter during Sierra Leone's athletics peak, competing against esteemed athletes such as Dr. Horace Dove-Edwin (Tipeps), Josephus and Joselyn Thomas (The Twins), Benjamin Grant (BeeGees), Francis Keita, Haroun Korjie, and Denton Guy Williams to name a few.
Overcoming tough competition, he not only broke and held Sierra Leone's national 100 Meters Record at 10.32 seconds (1991) later improved to 10.25 seconds (1996) until it was broken by Gibrilla Pato Bangura in 2009, but also earned three Silvers and a Bronze medal on the global stage.

As a dual citizen of Sierra Leone and Nigeria, San T chose to represent Sierra Leone, leading the national team to success in the sprints and relays. He played a pivotal role in securing Sierra Leone's first three global medals in the 4x100 Meters Relays (Silvers) at the 1991 World Student Games in Sheffield, 1991 All African Games in Cairo, Egypt and the 1995 All African Games in Harare, Zimbabwe and a Bronze medal he earned at the Athletics World Cup as the anchor Leg for the African team. In 1999, San T retired from a remarkable career after his final competition at the World Athletics Indoor Championship in Maebashi, Japan. He shifted his focus to nurturing the next generation of athletes, aiming to help them surpass his achievements.

Returning to Sierra Leone from the UK in the early 2000s, San T established a groundbreaking Track Meet, resembling a Grand Prix, to showcase and develop local talent. To highlight the country's athletic potential and his transformative work, he produced a well-received Documentary available on YouTube. San T remains a prominent figure in the sports community, offering mentorship and guidance to athletes and national associations.
